Encountering Jesus – Lesson 1
“Nathaniel the Skeptic”

John 1:45-46 (ESV), "Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

From the Heart! - I want you take a minute and think back over the course of your life; is there someone who has greatly effected the person you are today?  Maybe it was a coach or a teacher? Maybe it was one of your parents or grandparents? Maybe it was a neighbor or a business associate? But if you take a minute to think about it, I bet you can come up with at least one person who has profoundly affected your life. One of the greatest gifts God gives us is the ability and the willingness to help shape the life of another person. Having the opportunity to be part of preparing someone’s life for God’s Kingdom is one of the most important things we will ever do here on earth. When it comes to positively affecting other people’s lives, no one else in human history can even come close to the impact of Jesus Christ. And that is why I am so excited about this new series Pastor Matt and I starting today. We are each going to select stories from the Gospels, where everyday people (men and women like you and me) met Jesus Christ for the first time. The focus of each message will be on how these encounters completely changed the person’s life for the better. In ever case, something radical happened when they realized they were standing face to face with someone who wasn’t just a great teacher or a prophet, but a man who was also “The Living God.” No one can truly encounter Jesus Christ and stay the same.

It is my prayer that by the time this series is over, you will realize the incredible truth at the heart of the Gospel message: “The only way to really know the God who created us, is to encounter the Son He sent to save us!”

In His Service,
Pastor Steve
